About the AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia

The AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia is conducted as part of the Beef Australia 2024 event, concluding at Beef2024 with the AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition Awards Dinner on Tuesday, 7th May.

The AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia aims to give feedback to producers about compliance of beef carcases to market specifications, lean meat yield, and predicted eating quality of those carcases (MSA index). The appraisal system utilised in the competition is specifically designed to meet both export and domestic market requirements and uses the latest technology available to the beef industry.

A new class was introduced into the 2024 competition, allowing for weights of 360 kilograms or over into a new Open Class unrestricted feeding section, allowing for entries from producers who target long-fed markets.

A new award category, ‘The Most Successful Plant’ Award was also introduced, in recognition of the hard work each participating plant contributes to the success of the AMPC National Beef Carcase Competition, supported by MLA Meat Standards Australia.
